WOW - what a game. Ballard played top notch ball both offensively and defensively through the majority of the game. With two of our first three batters getting on base that set the stage for a three-run homerun by Trisha Perrin. After batting through the entire order in the first inning we had one more cross the plate to put us up 4-0. It was a tight ball game the rest of the way with Emily Gussin making some amazing outs for us by picking off the Lake WA baserunners every chance she got. She caught them while they were leading off, while they were trying to steal and while they were trying to cross homeplate. Future teams will think twice before running with Emily behind the plate.  Alyssa Meyer started off on the mound and kept the game very close for us as we were unable to put any more runs on the board after the first inning, leaving several baserunners stranded. Leslie Ellingsen took over in the 5th and, though we lost the lead and had to go into an international tiebreaker in the 9th, she fought hard and kept us in there until the end with 7 strikeouts. It came down to the bottom of the 9th where we started with Kristen Huden on 2nd base. With the defense expecting a sacrifice bunt, Tara French fouled a couple of pitches off then swung away landing a ball in right field that scored Huden and won the game.

Way to go girls!!! You kept your heads in the game and your spirits up even after the lead was lost and you truly played an amazing game.

Sorry - but no photos of this game. Our photographer is out of town so we won't have any pictures until the game on Friday against Bothell.
