Ballard:
An amazing game by the Ballard players but, unfortunately, an unhappy
ending. The Ballard girls played their best defensive game to date retiring
9 of the first 10 Juanita batters they faced. Tara French came out pitching
strong and striking out three of those batters with solid defensive plays
across from her teammates keeping Juanita off the board. The Beavers made
their offensive strike in the second inning with back to back hits by Hallie
Hemmingsen and Gretchen Gray. Next, Laura Zanzig took one for the team
gaining first base on a hit by pitch. With two outs, Nora Schlenker came up
to the plate and worked the count full. She fouled off two more pitches and
drew the walk and the RBI as Hallie Hemmingsen scored.Tara French came up
next and sent one back to the pitcher catching her off guard. She bobbled
the ball leaving Tara on first and sending Gretchen Gray home. While we had
several more baserunners throughout the game that would be the last Ballard
player to cross the plate. We held Juanita scoreless for another inning with
Trisha Perrin stealing their only hope of a run away by throwing out a
Juanita runner at home from center field. Ballard allowed only one run
through 6 innings and carried a 2-1 lead in to the bottom of the 7th. We
made a valiant effort and got within one out of taking the game but could
not hold on as Juanita scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th.
